Nikki Lee joined DIVERSANT in October 2016 as a recruiter in our Minneapolis office. The IT staffing industry was new to Nikki but she was up to the challenge. Nikki focused on learning the business and was not afraid of asking the right questions. Her hard work upfront helped her to become a Rising Star in our Achievers Club, a program designed to celebrate our top performers.

Nikki Lee Shares How Her Career Has Evolved 

D: Nikki, you joined us in 2016 and has quickly earned a name for yourself as a leading recruiter here at DIVERSANT. How has your career evolved during your time here?

NL: DIVERSANT is the very first IT staffing company that I’ve worked for. To be quite honest, I want to be here forever. I had no idea what staffing was when I first started but reflecting on my position a year ago to the present day makes me feel absolutely humble and proud. Working at DIVERSANT, I’ve learned to be very analytical and fostered a huge awareness of all the little and minor details in recruiting. I liked meeting consultants over coffee/lunch because relationship building and engagement management became so important to me in this industry. Over time, I realized that this isn’t a 9-to-5 job. I showed up in the morning and worked late nights until I finished all my work for the day. I also prepared my calendar for what was coming up in the future!

I am a very personable recruiter and I like to think of new recruiting strategies. I spend timing getting to know the consultants on a personal level and learning their strengths. I have persevered to be different from other recruiters by checking in with our consultants whether I found them a new project or not.

I also became one of the Rising Stars for our companies Achiever’s Club program, so I was extremely proud! All the long hours and being tenacious paid off!!


D: We all know that working in the IT staffing industry is demanding. How do you find balance in your work-life and home/family?

NL: This is a great question! I actually have a lot of respect for DIVERSANT top leading producers who have a family, like Nicole Cicero, or my recruiting manager, David Baker, whom I know is a leader, a producer, and a family man. I’m still very young in my career and have no ties to my evening schedule. Therefore, I usually end up ordering pizza for the night if I plan to have a late evening at work. On another note, staffing can become challenging and can consume the majority of your time. In these instances,  I tend to keep myself accountable by planning a small vacation every 2 to 3 months! I love setting up end goals and treating myself every once in a while.


D: Would you say that you’ve found your voice or place in the business world?

NL: It wasn’t until the summer of 2017 when I began to gain more traction within my market and started placing extraordinary consultants on great projects. I had the support of great managers and mentors who encouraged but also challenged me to be here in this seat. All of the hard work that I put in from my first six months of staffing began to bloom within the next year. From there, I was referred to other managers and consultants who were seeking solutions for projects and/or their career. I’m very thankful for where I am today and always try to do my best to be there for my team and other employees throughout the company!
